November 9th -12th 2023 saw the group take part in a number of Remembrance Events around Barnsley. Firstly Thursday 9th saw the Typhoon Scout Section attend the Barnsley Civic Festival of remembrance at St Marys Church with the Mayor, Deputy Lord Lieutenant and MP in attendance working alongside the cadet forces. Merlin also carried the World Flag representing the Barnsley District at the event.
November 11th saw Merlin attend Monk Bretton War Memorial this time carrying the Union Flag with Fr Darren Percival and a number of veterans and others to mark 11am. Ex 12th Barnsley Scout Gwyn Rees also played Last Post and Reveille.
November 12th saw the whole group turn out with our friends from the Yorkshire Military Band Corps of Drums, veterans, local councillor and churches to take part in the Remembrance Sunday Parade, Act of Remembrance and Service at St Pauls Parish Church. We would also like to thank the Methodist Church for providing the muster point for the parade once again this year. We believe there was a record turn out at the war memorial this year from the village.
